Architecture Photography

Moby
I personally really love this picture because Los Angeles has been my dream home since I was 11. I really like how the black and white filter gives it more of an oldish vibe. The Rialto also looks so fancy and the buildings next to it look kinda old and worn out so its a nice contrast.

Randy Scott Slavin
This picture is amazing because not only does it capture a city skyline, but the clouds and rich blue sky. I love how the trees and plants were incorporated in it also because it provides balance.

Helene Binet
I enjoy this picture a lot because it reminds me of a picture I once took when I was traveling. The sky looks so pure and blue and the sun seems so beam down so gracefully. The line work on the top of what seems to be a building is so precise that it actually provides a type of comfort.

Capture Episode #1

Which photographer's work do you personally prefer? Platon or Dylan McDermott?

Platon.

Where does Dylan McDermott go to take the best photos and why is it so fantastic to photograph?
Not quit sure where he mentioned. He said he loved taking the picture of his daughters that one time in her school.

Platon says he does not think of himself as a photographer anymore. What does he say he is?
A storyteller.
Both Platon and Dylan McDermott talk about today's society and how it have been "robbed" by technology.

What has technology taken from us according to Platon? Do you agree with the statements they make about communication today? Why or why not?
It messed up our interaction with people. I agree because today people would rather text than actually see one another.

Describe a photo you saw in the episode that you felt was an exceptional photo.

The one with the man posing with a guitar after being brutally tortured. How he is presented as a victor instead of a victim.

Capture Ep. 2 Questions

Which photographer's work do you personally prefer? Helena Christensen or Mary Ellen Mark?

I personally prefer Mary Ellen's work. No particular reason, I just liked her pictures a little bit better.

Do you think Helena Christensen's experience as a model in front of the camera had something to do with her success behind the camera? Explain

I think it did help out because having experience and background knowledge with photography can have even little improvements with someones skills.

What did Mary Ellen Mark mean when she said, "camera companies don't want to know you anymore."

Not really sure what that meant

Describe a photo you saw in the episode that you felt was an exceptional photo.

The one with the guy sweeping and smiling really big was my favorite. Like one of the ladies said, it was something you would probably never come across again. I love those type of pictures that you can really see and feel emotion behind it.

Capture Episode #4 Questions

Do you agree with Kevin Bacon’s statement about how musicians are better photography subjects than actors?  Why?

Yes because actors can portray fake expression, which could make or break a quality photo but it looses meaning. On the other hand, musicians display real emotions and energy.

Which photographer’s work did you enjoy more?  Bob Gruen or Kevin Bacon?  Why?  What stands out to you?

I liked Bob Gruen's more because I feel like hes more experienced.

Describe a photo you saw in the episode that you felt was an exceptional photo.

The one of Kevin staring out his hotel window while the sun was rising was a really nice one.

Why do you think Bob Gruen photographed the Clash and Green Day in the same location?

Maybe he felt like the setting would be a great place to take photos in again.

Did you enjoy the episode?  Would you be interested in watching another episode in class?

I did enjoy it however I'm not a big fan of talk show type programs.

Watermark & Questions

1.)  Are  you for or against adding watermarks to your images?

I'm for watermarks because I feel like if you work hard and take the time to perfect something yo did and you are proud of you should be credited for it.

2.)  If someone took your photos & wouldn’t give you credit what would you do?

I feel like I'd only be mad if they purposely took my photo and used it to their own advantage. If not it would just bother me a little, but I'd be happy that someone liked my photo enough to pass it off as their own.

Critique

Tim, I like this picture but you could've angled the camera downwards a little more so that the bottom of the globe would of shown. & you should've told those people in the shot to move too bc they're ruining your pic im sure they would've understood :-)

On the otherhand, I really love this picture by Jade Blidy. I like the fact that the squares diagonal to each other are presented with cool colors while the other two are more warm. Also the camera on the piano keyboard is a great scene!

Enrico this makes no sense. Who just stands in the middle a school bathroom with a blank stare. And I've never seen anyone so happy to be throwing out something away. You could've been more creative. It looks kinda crooked too. Nice shirt tho.

Save The Planet

My social issue refers to global warming. This picture reflects the melting ice caps that are occurring because of it. It's honestly so sad to see this because we as humans are responsible for the majority of this damage. I hope that one day we realize how badly we're hurting our one and only home and that we start to make a change before it's too late.

3 Photos that Changed the World

This picture shows six Marines, raising the American flag and is used as a tribute to American heroism. It really shows the dedication a person can have for what they do and love. It is really breathtaking to see such a brave act. Although three of the six Marines were killed, they died with great pride. The whole nature of this picture is how strong we can all be together. It's a really inspirational photograph in my opinion.

Picture taken by Astronaut Bill Anders of planet Earth rising up over the moons horizon. This picture  changed the way we our planet and interpret its place in the galaxy. I really like this picture because it makes you realize that we actually live in an astonoshing place. The fact that we're mere humans compared to the massive wonder we call our home. Really makes me appreciate everything we have.

Photograph taken of sailor, sweeping up a nurse for a kiss after hearing that World War II had ended. Although I have no idea who these two people were, it makes me happy. I could only imagine the joy someone was feeling to have displayed such an action. It warms my heart knowing that in that moment this picture was snapped, this man had recieved the best news he could imagine. Crazy what that burst of exitment in someone can lead too.
